We recommend feeding your shrimp Shrimp Dinner 2, Hikari Shrimp Cuisine, Brightwell FlorinBacter, and MicroBacter7.
The Black Boa is a highly sought-after premium metallic variant of Caridina shrimp. They are known for their deep black body coloration, paired with a striking metallic silver-to-gold back stripe.
Low/Medium Grade: Mostly black with a thinner, less-defined metallic
stripe.
High Grade: Features a wide, solid, and unbroken metallic stripe that
extends from the head to the tail.
We strongly advise against using tap water. Its parameters can fluctuate significantly and it often contains minerals that raise KH levels. We highly recommend using RO/DI or purified water, remineralized with a dedicated GH+ product such as SaltyShrimp Bee Shrimp Mineral GH+.
We highly recommend using the drip acclimation method for at least 1.5 to 2 hours. Shrimp are very sensitive to sudden changes in water parameters, temperature, and pH, so slow acclimation is essential for their survival.
Most Neocaridina (like Cherry Shrimp) thrive in temperatures between 68°F and 78°F (20°C–25°C). Caridina (like Black BOAs) species generally prefer slightly cooler water, ideally between 65°F and 72°F (18°C–22°C).
Feed small amounts 2 to 3 times a week. Overfeeding is one of the most common causes of tank issues! Make sure to remove any uneaten food after 2–3 hours to prevent water quality spikes.
Yes, molting is completely natural! As shrimp grow, they shed their outer exoskeleton. If you see translucent "ghosts" in your tank, leave them in—the shrimp will often eat their old molts to reclaim essential minerals.(Molting can aslo be a sign of breeding)
Almost any fish large enough to fit a shrimp in its mouth will try to eat it (especially shrimplets). If you want to keep them with small, peaceful nano fish (like Otocinclus or Endlers), ensure the tank has plenty of heavy moss and hiding spots.
